Building a Brighter, United Community
ReNew The View is a unique, large scale project to transform the boarding surrounding the construction site at 282 Ontario St. into pieces of art. The owners of the former GM lands have joined forces with Willow Arts Community to ReNew The View with vibrant murals painted on the blank plywood along all four streets bordering the site.
This is first and foremost a community project. The murals are being designed to celebrate what’s special about the neighbourhoods as well as recognize GM workers who lived across the city. They are being designed and painted by artists from Willow Arts, which is a peer-led arts organization for people living with mental illness/substance use in Niagara.
Painting began in mid-July on Ontario St. with an Indigenous-led mural that honors the natural heritage of 12 Mile Creek and emphasizes the importance of preserving and protecting our waterways.
In the Fall of 2024, we held a Community Paint Day Residents from the surrounding neighbourhoods came together on Haig St to create four murals celebrating their community. Also in the Fall, professional artists from the neighbourhood partnered with Willow Arts Community to bring their creative visions to sections of Pleasant Ave and Haig St.
In 2025, we will be bringing more murals to Carlton St and Pleasant Ave. You can support this work by contributing to the ReNew the View Project as a volunteer, donor, or sponsor. Click here to visit the Renew the View website to learn more.
